New Programs
As public transit provider to one of the fastest-growing regions in the nation, Omnitrans' success depends upon its ability to plan for the future. Here are a few of the new programs and future directions for Omnitrans...
- New Buses to Debut in Summer/Fall 2009
Omnitrans will soon have 27 new buses in service. Purchased in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, the new natural-gas powered coaches will complete the agency’s transition to a 100 percent alternatively-fueled fleet this fall.
The most anticipated new-and improved feature, however, is the coaches’ new Odyssey farebox. In addition to the ability to accept and “read” coins, tokens, and bills. It even utilizes mechanisms to reduce coin and card jams! Want to learn how to use the new farebox, read this brochure.
- 2010-2015 Short Range Transit Plan
Omnitrans is drafting its new Short Range Transit Plan that will guide the agency's bus routes and service between 2010 and 2015. The current proposal includes a fare increase scheduled for September 2009 and several Access service policy changes.

The Chino-Ontario Community-Based Transportation Plan project is being undertaken by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and will focus on a portion of the former San Bernardino County Agricultural Preserve annexed by the cities of Chino and Ontario. This area is generally bounded by Riverside Drive to the north, Euclid Avenue to the west and the county boundary lines on the east and south. The City of Chino’s portion of the former agricultural preserve will be developed in accordance with “The Preserve Specific Plan,” also known as “The Preserve,” while the City of Ontario’s portion of the former agricultural preserve will be developed in accordance with “The City of Ontario Sphere of Influence General Plan,” more commonly known as the “New Model Colony.”
This project provides a unique opportunity to incorporate transit planning into new communities.
